Well, not too happy with this one since my knitting doesn't seem too uniform.........I think I will have to start trying to knit a little tighter........I started off using tweed's pattern and then went off on my own. This is more of a preemie size blanket because I was getting bored with it and wanted it to end! LOL It seems I do alright with bigger needles, but when using smaller needles it's awful looking.........any advice? Picture is clickable for a better view......

If you are having problems with tension on the smaller needles, I like to use my bamboos. Less slipping

Awful? I think it is lovely. I like the colors and what I can see of the stitch pattern looks pretty. Have you washed / blocked it yet? That might make you feel better about the look of the uniformity of the sts. I have used aluminum and acrylic needles in small sizes but prefer the bamboo for the same reason as Tweed said. But I prefer bamboo for everything anyway. My tension is the same regardless of what needles I use because I naturally knit (and crochet) tight. My problem is the opposite of yours---I struggle to knit looser! Congrats on getting this blankie done so fast! Mine is barely half done. The endless YO's are boring me to death. Glad mine is a small one like yours...or it would never get done. BTW, WHAT don't you like about the white area? Simply the fact that it is larger than the other color bands? I bet if you wash it and put it away for a while and then pull it out again you will like it alot more.

Thank you ladies. I don't like the white because it shows the lack of uniformity of the stitches........hard to see in the picture. Thanks for the advice, I think next time I will give the bamboo needles a try! I will also try to knit a bit tighter and see if that helps. I'm sure being bored with it didn't help. And it really does need to be blocked, I'm sure it'll improve it a bit........Thanks for the nice words and advice!

Well heck, I have been thru 3 blankets and have yet to get one done. First one I loved and didn't have enough yarn, the second was an awful pattern wrought with errors, the third isn't even 12 rows yet and I am having problems, since it very well is me and not the pattern it has survived and is sitting there while I finished some cloths. Hope springs.............

Question, Bende: What size yarn and needles did you use for your blanket? Also, did you measure it for exact size? And, how many sts did you use for cast on? Oh My! That was more than one question!

Carol Ann, I used size 6 needles and 129 stitches. It measures 24 1/4" x 20 1/2. I used scrap baby yarn that I had hanging around without the wrapper, but it was typical baby yarns..like the bernat baby yarns...the yellow was actually caron simply soft yarn

Thanks so much, Bende. I was trying to gauge future blanket sizes based on the different weight yarns and different size needles to figure out the CO # of sts when "winging it" with basic st patterns. So we actually came out the same size but I used heavier yarn and smaller needles (with a CO of 101 sts). I keep trying to see your blanket better (but can't) because I like what looks like ridges or ribbing or something that makes those nifty lines in the colored parts of the blanket. I can't make out the white section at all. Where did you do Tweed's st pattern and what did you do where you took off doing your own thing? Sorry for all of the questions.

Sorry I've taken so long to respond...been hectic around here......... the colored sections are tweed's pattern..when I went to white, i just knitted, just because I wanted to quickly get this done.. I was losing interest in anything I was doing at that time. Tweeds pattern is really pretty though, and looking back, I wish I had kept doing it but.......I still have lots of scrap baby yarn! Here's the closeup pics for the ridges and the white plain knitting..here you can see where my knitting is not very uniform at all! You can click on the pics for a better view......

thanks Bende! It is so nice of you to take the time to explain things and take more pics to show me. Tweedie's part / pattern is really nice! I love the looks of the lines and ridges ---and they show off so well with your color changes. I am laughing about your white section only because my own knitting looks like that before washing or blocking...especially with very light weight yarn like baby yarn. Doesn't matter what size needles I use either. It is near impossible (isn't it?) to keep a uniform tension when putting down and picking up the work again over hours or days. I still like your's whether you do or not. LOL
